ABA Parent Training and Family Guidance
When a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) begins ABA therapy, it’s often the start of an incredible journey—but it’s a journey that requires the entire family to be on board. At Little Achievers, we understand that therapy doesn’t stop when your child leaves our care.
Therefore, our mission extends beyond the 1:1 sessions to equip you, the caregiver, with the necessary skills to foster consistency and progress every single day. Our specialized ABA Parent Training and Family Guidance program turns everyday interactions into powerful learning opportunities, transforming your family’s daily routine and reducing stress.
Why is Parent Training Essential to Successful ABA?
It is well-established that the consistent application of behavioral principles across all environments is the single biggest predictor of long-term success. Consequently, our training program doesn’t just inform you; it actively teaches you how to become your child’s most effective co-therapist.
Ultimately, when you learn to speak the language of ABA, you achieve several critical outcomes:
Consistency: Skills learned in the clinic or during in-home sessions are reinforced immediately and correctly at home.
Generalization: Your child learns that a skill (like requesting an item) works in the therapy session, at home, at the grocery store, and at family gatherings.
Reduced Stress: You gain confidence and clear, reliable strategies to handle challenging behaviors, which in turn leads to a calmer, more predictable home environment.
Bridging the Gap Between Therapy and Home Life
Our dedicated parent coaching sessions are designed to bridge the gap between clinical expertise and your family’s unique life. We focus on training you to implement strategies during natural, everyday occurrences like mealtimes, bedtime routines, and playtime.
What You Will Learn in Our ABA Parent Training Program
Our programs are designed and led by experienced, Board Certified Behavior Analysts BCBA. Consequently, we ensure that all training is rooted in evidence-based practices, with a specific focus on Behavior Skills Training BCBA. This proven method is systematic, involving several crucial steps: instruction where we explain the specific strategy; modeling where the BCBA demonstrates the skill; rehearsal where you practice the technique in a supervised setting; and immediate feedback to ensure accurate and effective implementation.
Understanding the "Why" Behind Behavior (FBA)
One of the most empowering lessons we teach is the “ABC” (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence) model. Initially, you will learn how to conduct a basic Functional Behavior Assessment FBA, which is critical for identifying the true reason your child engages in a challenging behavior. As a result, you move away from reacting emotionally and transition toward effective problem-solving, which allows you to proactively prevent issues.
Mastering Positive Reinforcement and Communication
Furthermore, we focus heavily on strengthening communication and cooperation. You will learn to identify your child’s motivators and use positive reinforcement effectively to encourage desired behaviors. For children with significant communication needs, we provide specialized training in techniques like:
Functional Communication Training ($\text{FCT}$): Replacing problematic behaviors (like hitting or screaming) with a more appropriate form of communication (like using words or picture cards).
Prompting and Fading: Learning how to effectively assist your child to ensure success, and then systematically reducing that help to foster independence.
How Our Family Guidance Sessions Work at Little Achievers
We recognize that family life is busy, which is why we offer flexible options to fit your schedule and comfort level. Therefore, our BCBAs are committed to making these sessions productive and convenient, ensuring you receive high-quality training tailored to your needs.
Personalized Parent Coaching Options
We deliver ABA Parent Training and Family Guidance through several convenient formats designed for flexibility:
In-Person Coaching
Sessions conducted directly at your home or our facility. This offers immediate, real-time application and practice with your child under direct $\text{BCBA}$ supervision.

Crucially, every training plan starts with your goals. We use the same data-driven approach we use with your child to measure your progress and confidence. Your family’s success will be tracked through concrete, observable improvements
Behavior Reduction
The reduction in the frequency or intensity of a specific challenging behavior (e.g., tantrums, hitting).
Skill Mastery

Questions You
May Have
What is the primary goal of ABA Parent Training?
The primary goal of ABA Parent Training and Family Guidance is to empower caregivers to be effective agents of change for their child. We aim to teach you to consistently apply the principles of ABA, such as positive reinforcement and antecedent strategies, in your daily routines. This in turn ensures skills learned in therapy generalize to your home and community, leading to a significant and lasting reduction in challenging behaviors.
How much time is required for Parent Training each week?
The time commitment is flexible and personalized based on your family's needs and schedule. Typically, ABA Parent Training sessions occur weekly or bi-weekly, lasting anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. However, the most crucial time commitment is the daily practice you implement at home, which your BCBA will assign as "homework" to reinforce the new skills you learn.
Is Parent Training only for parents, or can other caregivers attend?
Our Family Guidance program is designed for any primary caregiver involved in the child's life. This includes parents, grandparents, older siblings, nannies, or other family members who regularly spend time with the child and need to apply consistent behavioral strategies. We encourage all relevant caregivers to participate for maximum effectiveness.
What kind of challenging behaviors will the training help me manage?
Our training is data-driven and tailored to your child’s specific needs. Generally, we provide strategies to manage a wide range of behaviors, including: frequent tantrums, non-compliance, aggression, self-injurious behaviors, difficulties with transitioning between activities, and sleep or feeding challenges. You will learn to identify the function (the "why") behind these behaviors, which is the key to effectively changing them.
Is Parent Training covered by insurance?
In most cases, yes, ABA Parent Training and Family Guidance is covered under the same insurance benefit that covers your child's direct ABA therapy. This is because caregiver training is recognized as a clinically necessary component for successful treatment outcomes. However, coverage varies by insurance plan, so we encourage you to contact us to verify your specific benefits before starting.
How do you measure the success of the Parent Training program?
We measure success by tracking two things: your child's progress and your confidence/skill mastery. We track data on the reduction of the challenging behaviors you are targeting. Simultaneously, we track your progress using skill checklists and direct observation to ensure you are consistently and correctly applying the techniques taught by your $\text{BCBA}$.
Do I need to be present for my child's direct ABA sessions to receive Parent Training?
While you don't need to be present for every minute of direct therapy, attending regular Family Guidance sessions with your BCBA is vital. Often, theBCBA will use a portion of the child's direct therapy time for "in-vivo" coaching, showing you exactly how to implement a technique with your child in the moment, which significantly accelerates your learning and confidence.
