What Skills are Focused on During Early Autism Intervention?
Our early intervention programs are designed to harness the peak period of brain plasticity, typically between 18 months and 3 years of age. During this critical window, we focus on three primary skill domains to foster independence and long-term success:
- Social Communication Skills: We target foundational milestones such as joint attention (sharing focus with others), imitation, and reciprocal social behaviors like turn-taking and initiating interaction. These are often taught through play-based methods to help children engage more meaningfully with their families and peers.
- Adaptive Living Skills: We prioritize self-help and daily independence. This includes breaking down tasks like toileting, dressing, feeding, and handwashing into small, achievable steps. Mastering these routines builds significant confidence and prepares children for the transition into school environments.
- Behavioral Regulation and Motor Coordination: We create predictable structures to help children follow routines and respond calmly to their environment. Additionally, we address motor coordination to build grip strength and body awareness, which supports both daily living tasks and sensory processing.
Through our personalized, high-quality ABA therapy, we also emphasize biweekly parent training to ensure these skills are reinforced consistently at home. The goal is always progress—and play can be the perfect path to get there.
Results may vary and individual outcomes are not guaranteed. Consult your licensed BCBA or healthcare professional for individualized assessment and recommendations. Insurance coverage varies by plan — verify benefits with your insurer before starting services.
